From the time he was a small child, Rick Malone loved being outside and was always fascinated with the wonders of the environment. When Rick was introduced to the landscape architecture field during his junior year in high school he knew immediately that he had found the perfect career choice. After receiving his Bachelor's of Science Degree in Landscape Architecture from The Ohio State University in 2003, Rick moved back to Brunswick where he soon found employment with a local landscape architect. Self employment beckoned the following year, and Rick responded by founding RJM Landscape Design to develop personalized landscapes for residential and commercial clients throughout Northeast Ohio. We met with Rick and his wife Melissa recently, and listened as they provided this overview of RJM Landscape Design's offerings;

RJM Landscape Design specializes in personalized landscapes based on principle and not theory. Our designs include improving the curb appeal of homes by updating the front entrances with enhanced walk-ways, lighting, and plantings that not only work well with home but will also thrive with a minimum of maintenance. For the backyards we frequently help move the inside outdoors through the creation of patios, decks, barbecues, grills, and multi-functional outdoor rooms that serve as an extension of the homeowners' living area. We also work closely with homeowners in the pre-building stage to recommend strategies for positioning their homes to take advantage of the natural features of the property. This includes designing the position of the home to take advantage of the direction of the wind and the angle of the sun to help reduce winter heating needs, and situating the home to provide exhilarating views of the surrounding landscape.

We seek to ensure each property lives up to its potential regardless of the season. Not only are we seeking to design a landscape that is attractive and captivating throughout the spring and summer, but we also create landscapes that remain interesting and function extremely well from late fall through winter.

By visiting with each client I take the time to become familiar with their ideas, hopes, and dreams, and then recommend unique, creative solutions that will accomplish their objectives while addressing their individual style and preferences. Our goal for every project includes understanding the client's vision, realizing the opportunities available, and solving site issues and/or problems through responsible design while respecting the natural environment. As professionals, we serve each of our clients with honesty and integrity from conceptual design through construction supervision.

Although we are primarily a design firm, we work hard to assist our clients in finding qualified contractors capable of handling their installation and construction needs in a professional manner.
