Heimatland Restaurant

After Michael Schneider developed his German-themed complex in Brunswick, Ohio, a restaurant became one of his earliest tenants. When that restaurant closed, the family who had owned the Heimatland Restaurant many years previously took over the space and opened a new Heimatland Restaurant in 1994. In 2005 the Schneider family assumed ownership of the Heimatland Restaurant which they continue to operate today with the help of the former owner and many of the original employees. We met with Michael's daughter, Lena Knight, and listened as she gave this overview of Heimatland Restaurant's offerings;

Heimatland Restaurant is a full-service restaurant serving lunch Tuesdays through Sunday, dinner Friday through Sunday, and breakfast Saturday and Sunday. We offer a lunch buffet from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm Tuesday through Friday and a dinner buffet on Sunday from 12:30 pm to 6:30 pm loaded with items ranging from Chicken Paprikash to Beef Stew to Sausage and Sauerkraut complete with a salad bar and desserts. Our regular menu is filled with a wide variety of expertly-prepared items, such as our Wiener Schnitzel and Chicken Paprikas. Our food is absolutely great, and our portions are very large.

Everything we do here is home-made. Our soups and sauces are all made from scratch, and even our Wiener Schnitzel is pounded thin, breaded, and pan-fried in our own kitchen. We have a large selection of All-American and Old World Style appetizers, in addition to a variety of salads featuring only the freshest ingredients nestled on a bed of crisp salad greens. We have German Potato Pancakes, Potato and Cheese Pierogis, Roasted Pork Tenderloin, German Sausage, Blackforest Club sandwiches with tender roast beef layered with crisp bacon, lettuce, tomato, and jack and cheddar cheese serve on grilled rye bread, and the best Corn Beef Sandwiches and Reubens around. We have great desserts, including home-made apple and cherry strudel. Everything on our menu is also available for carry-out.

We seat sixty guests and often host anniversary, birthday, and graduation parties. We love to cater to our guests, and strive to build an atmosphere of friends sitting down to a home-cooked dinner. Our goal is for each guest, from Grandma and Grandpa to the youngest children, to leave feeling great, not only mentally and emotionally, but physically, as well.

Our walls are filled with hand-painted murals of cities, towns, and mountains in Germany and Austria. They were done free-hand by Hubert Sirozki and provide an intriguing appearance throughout the restaurant. We have built a new patio this year to provide our guests with alfresco dining, and are looking forward to setting up the tables and umbrellas just as soon as the weather permits.
