There isn't much about the donut business that Bill Rienerth hasn't seen. After twelve years of making donuts on the night shift for Mr. Donut in Middleburg Heights and a brief stint with another shop working days, Bill found an empty spot for rent in Brunswick that had formerly held a Tastee Freeze. That was thirty-six years ago and Bill has been Brunswick's premier donut maker ever since.
Anticipating a slow start, Bill planned to do most of the work himself and only hire helpers once the business got going. Imagine his surprise when the window sign that announced that he would be open at 9:00 Sunday morning had people rattling his front door several hours before opening time looking for raised donuts. He thought his first day would consist of a few customers here and there, but in reality he was packed all day long and has been busy ever since. One of the keys to Bill's success has been making sure the donuts are constantly fresh. Even though Brunswick doesn't have any other donut shops, Bill's insistence on freshness makes convenience store and gas station donuts run a distant second to his "fresh-from-the-fryer" treats.
Donut Land's favorites have always been the glazed, chocolate cream, and chocolate frosted donuts but you'll find his shelves filled with every type and flavor imaginable. In addition to donuts, Donut Land bakes a nice selection of muffins, puff pastries, and a little item called a Peanut Butter Bar. Bill bakes the Peanut Butter Bars himself using his own secret recipe and Donut Land is the only place you can get them. The day before Lent, Bill always makes sure Donut Land has a fresh supply of Paczkis which are much like jelly filled donuts. Tradition has it that on the day before Lent the Polish housewives would clean out the cupboards of everything fattening that they were giving up for Lent. These items would find their way into the Paczkis which would be eaten the day before on what would become known as Fat Tuesday before the religious fasting would begin.
Whenever you order a dozen donuts from Donut Land, you'll be pleasantly surprised to discover that each Tuesday a dozen means a baker's dozen. Donut Land serves hot apple cider year 'round and cold cider throughout the Autumn months. They have English Toffee and French Vanilla Cappuccino, hot tea, and hot chocolate all year long, and Bill has a couple game machines to help entertain the younger members of your party.
There aren't many things that have the universal appeal of fresh raised donuts -- particularly when they're made by a man of Bill's experience. Treat yourself, your co-workers, or your family to the taste of Pure Americana by stopping by Donut Land and picking up a dozen today.
